Services

Our service range has expanded rapidly since our launch in the UK. It now includes:

Surgical centres

NHS Treatment Centre - Greater Manchester Surgical Centre

The GMSC, located in Trafford, opened in 2005. It is a newly-built 48 bed facility employing almost 150 clinical staff providing inpatient and outpatient services.

The centre is open 24 hours, seven days a week. Our surgeons carry out a wide range of surgery such as ear, nose and throat surgery, and orthopaedic surgery.

During our first year, we carried out 5,000 procedures, and achieved patient satisfaction levels of 96.9 per cent.

The Scottish Regional Treatment Centre

The SRTC, located at Stracathro Hospital, near Brechin, opened in February 2007.

It is a newly refurbished 24 bed facility. It employs around 50 clinical and non-clinical staff, providing inpatient and outpatient services.

The SRTC serves NHS patients from Grampian, Tayside and Fife Health Boards.

Patients visit the centre for their pre-assessment or our local assessment centres, depending on which is closer.

The centre is open 24 hours, seven days a week. Our surgeons carry out a wide range of surgery such as ear, nose and throat surgery, and orthopaedic surgery.

It is expected the SRTC will perform nearly 3,000 cases per year.

Patient choice

Netcare is working with its sister company BMI Healthcare to provide services to the NHS under the Department of Health's programme to extend patient choice.

Under the programme, GPs are able to directly refer and book appointments for NHS patients to BMI hospitals throughout the UK.

Patients can be referred for a wide range of routine elective procedures.

Cataract centres

Netcare has been working closely with the NHS to help reduce waiting lists across the country for cataract surgery.

Our mobile units undertake pre-operative assessments, surgery and post-operative care. They are an innovative and effective way to bring cataract surgery almost to our patients’ doorsteps.

The units have travelled to patients in Cumbria, Lancashire, Cheshire, Merseyside, Thames Valley, Reading, Surrey, Sussex, Kent and Medway, Hampshire, Cornwall, Dorset and Somerset, consistently achieving a 97.1 per cent patient satisfaction rate.

Our consultant ophthalmologists are all on the General Medical Council (GMC) Specialist Register. Our published clinical outcomes show a very low complication rate in comparison with other published data from around the world, allowing our patients to benefit from improved eyesight and resume an independent lifestyle.

Patients are referred by GPs, optometrists, referral centres, consultants and participating primary care trusts (PCTs).

Walk-in centres

Patients can walk in and see a registered nurse or GP, or book an appointment for physiotherapy at the Headrow NHS Walk-in Centre, run by Netcare.

The Leeds city centre, which opened in February 2007, is staffed by registered nurses, GPs and physiotherapists.

It serves commuters and the local community and complements services provided by GPs and A&E.

It provides treatment for patients with minor illnesses and injuries; headaches; coughs, colds and flu-like symptoms; skin complaints and muscle and joint injuries.

More than 30,000 patients have now been treated at the centre.

Diagnostic services

We are working with our joint venture partner InHealth to provide diagnostic services across 30 sites in London.

These include:
- MRI
- X-ray
- Ultrasound
- Endoscopy
- 24 hour ECG
- Blood pressure monitoring
- Phlebotomy
- Echocardiography
- Reporting only.

The clinical team includes 47 radiographers, of which seven are MRI specialists, ten ultrasonographers, seven echocardiographers and a team of radiologists based in Hemel Hempstead to interpret images and prepare reports.
