Healthcare Commission
The Healthcare Commission was established to promote improvement in the quality of the NHS and independent healthcare, and was set up under the Health and Social Care (Community Health and Standards) Act 2003, with a statutory duty to assess performance. Independent healthcare establishments are required to register with the Commission, and are regulated by it.
The Commission assesses all independent providers’ performance against national minimum standards using a series of indicators to monitor their performance these. The Healthcare Commission has a duty to regulate and inspect the Independent (Private and Voluntary) Healthcare sector in England as a minimum, once every five years dependent on an annual risk based assessment.
Netcare currently is responsible for two activities that are regulated by the Healthcare Commission.
- The Greater Manchester Surgical Centre is regulated by the Commission, certificate number 10000022
- The mobile cataract units are regulated by the Commission, certificate number P050002118
